LIPID PROFILE – BLOOD TEST
A lipid profile is a blood test that measures the amount of cholesterol and fats called triglycerides in the blood. These measurements give the doctor a quick snapshot of what’s going on in your blood. Cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood can clog arteries, making you more likely to develop heart disease.
ECG – Electrocardiography
ECG is the first and initial test to check heart issue of the patient . An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple test that can be used to check your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity. Sensors attached to the skin are used to detect the electrical signals produced by your heart each time it beats.
A qualified doctor may use an electrocardiogram to determine or detect: Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmias) If blocked or narrowed arteries in your heart (coronary artery disease) are causing chest pain or a heart attack. Whether you have had a previous heart attack.
Electrocardiogram (ECG ) is very useful to assess the heart rate and rhythm. This test can often detect heart disease, heart attack, an enlarged heart, or abnormal heart rhythms that may cause heart failure.
A Stress Test is usually used to determine whether someone has heart disease. The doctor performs the test to determine how much your heart performs under physical stress until blood flow to the heart muscles drops, or an unusual rhythm develops. In many cases, the Stress Test is also used to determine the level of exercise that the individual can safely do.
Exercise makes your heart pump harder and faster, an exercise stress test can reveal problems with blood flow within your heart.
Your doctor may recommend a stress test to:
- Diagnose coronary artery disease.
- Diagnose heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias).
- Guide treatment of heart disorders.
It is a commonly prescribed test in cardiology and gives estimates of the heart size and shape, pumping capacity, and tissue damage.
It is used to diagnose:
Valvular Heart Disease.
Congenital Heart Disease.
Ischemic Heart Disease ( cardiac event such as heart attacks).
- The 2D Echo test is performed by trained cardiologists at our center in Prabhadevi. A handheld transducer – a device that emits high-frequency sound waves, is moved over the heart to examine the cardiac structures and diagnose heart disease.
Coronary angiography is an imaging test that uses X-rays to view the heart’s blood vessels. The X-rays provided by an angiography are called angiograms. This test is used to study narrow, blocked, enlarged, or malformed arteries of the heart. This test is done by an Interventional Cardiologist in a cath lab and it is a daycare procedure.
A coronary angiogram is an X-ray of the arteries in the heart. This shows the extent and severity of any heart disease and can help you to figure out how well your heart is working.
If the pictures from your angiography show a narrowing or blockage that can be treated immediately, your cardiologist may decide to continue and put a stent in at once (angioplasty), as part of the same procedure.
